If you have Fear of Failure then have Faith in Yourself

Fear of failure is at least as common as the desire for success. In fact, if properly harnessed, it can be the energy that drives the wheel. But for many people it becomes debilitating.

Learning to use fear rather than letting it use you is obviously not just a problem for enterpreneurs but for anyone in business.

A good friend of mine once found himself in an unenviable position in the early summer of 2005. He was Germany’s only hope for a Taekwondo European Tournament medal, and the burden of carrying the nation’s pride on his shoulders was getting to him.

My friend later told me that he had spoken on several occasions prior to the Tournament with one of the highest rank Taekwondo masters and that he felt that he owed part of his gold medal to him.

He explained it as follows:

My master told me that I was the only one who knew how to get my body and mind to the ultimate peak for the Tournament. He then told me that after I had donde this that I should keep saying to myself “I have done everything I can to get ready for this competition and if I win everything will be great, but if I dont win my friends will still be my friends, my enemies will still be my enemies and the world will still be the same”. I repeated this sentence over and over and it blocked out everything else. I was still repeating it to myself when I went up to get my gold medal.

Fear will suck energy required to achieve that extra mile you require to stand out of the crowd. In order to exploit your peak performance fully you need to Have Faith in Yourself in order to block everything else, if you have done all you could to be in the highest peak for a point in time in the future and you understand that you will exploit that peak then you will feel calmed enough to do the best you can.

Be honest with yourself and do not overdo yourself just to comply, doing this will have detrimental results.

Push yourself only when you practice, train or learn, but never when it is time to perform.
