This is part 3 of a series of articles about Top Secrets to Achieve Success, please go to the Category “Top Secrets for Success” to find the rest of the articles. You will enjoy the reading.

I have been enjoying this whole series of articles because it has served me to notice how much have I learned without even noticing and having all these secrets written is really a great thing to do, not only for me but for you in order to help you find your own recipe for success.

Let’s have some fun and move on with the list…

1. Apply the “John Rambo” Approach

I am sure that many of you have seen the movie “Rambo”, and if not then take a quick watch there is a lot of lessons to learn there.

What was the goal of Rambo? Defend Freedom
Isn’t that your goal too? Defend your freedom by doing all the right decisions and eventually be financially free.

In order for Rambo to achieve his goal he would:

a) Win as many battles as possible in order to win the war
b) In order to win his battles he would always have a master plan
c) He would never deviate from his plan, once the plan is decided there is no room for doubt or failure
d) No matter which obstacles are presented he will keep moving forward without looking back
e) He will know when to adapt to the situation and change accordingly (when the plan no longer works).

So, never forget that when your goals ask you who you are: you have to answer “Your worst nightmare”. ;)

2. Spend a lot of time deciding what your goals will be

We all forget that the decision of setting a goal is something that is not to be taken lightly, swearing on a goal means that you will dedicate your time and life to achieve it, and making a mistake here can be costly, for that reason you need to take a lot of time studying if such a goal is achievable considering your current situation.

Think about how many times you have just set yourself a goal just on pure emotion without ever thinking if you really want to do that or if you will have what is required to achieve that goal. It has happened to me many times and I have bailed out on all of them.

If you really want to be able to take charge of your future you have to be smart enough to pick your wishes correctly. There are so many variables that need to be evaluated that JUST THE FACT to decide what your goal will be can take a long time, but this time will be well spent as it will save you a lot of time, deception, frustration and pain.

There is nothing wrong to be realistic about your goals and it is not because it is not possible but because of the TIME LIMIT our life have.

Consider evaluating your goals the same as doing a Feasibility study, obviously even though the points might not necessarily match your needs you certainly know better than anyone what you need.

3. Decide for goals that are active but that can be changed to passive

During the process of picking your goals and depending on what you are looking for to achieve in the long term you should be trying to focus on goals which over time can be converted to a passive goal thus helping you achieve your ultimate goal to “Defend your Freedom”.

We have been completely mislead by the hyped marketing about financial freedom as they all talk about “Passive Income”, passive income means that you do not have to move a single finger in order to earn money, BUT guess what EVERY SINGLE GOAL STARTS AS AN ACTIVE GOAL. There is no way to do things the other way. Even if you are reading this to learn how to generate a passive income you are being active about learning how. So it is not anymore EFFORT FREE.

For that reason you need to select goals that in the long term can be gradually be changed to a passive goal. It does not matter if you have to work like a mule for 10 years if after that your goal will be reached and then it can be made to work for you.

I do think that almost every goal has it own passive ingredient built in, but the BIG MISTAKE is to think of passive before thinking of active and that is what discourage so many people to reach their goals.

4. Blind your mind so it cannot see good or bad, just see everything as the path to achieve your goals.

There is no more accurate comment as “there is no such thing as failure”, I have read that from Deepak Chopra long time ago and even though I was not able to understand how he could say such a thing I finally understood it.

I really like when such things happen because it means to me that I am growing on the different aspects of my life.

The fact that things that happen to us are good or bad is just a contrast or relation we have learned in order to have some way to JUDGE things. This is all depending on each society’s standards.

For example if you live in Africa and you live in a house which have water and electricity when no one enjoy those benefits then you feel blessed, but if you come from America or Europe and move to that house then obviously that is the most decadent thing you would have ever seen.

The same happens with your goals, when you see people around you making money and having big cars and a big home and you are still walking and living in a rented apartment then you feel like a failure and that all things in your life are BAD.

Goals are not different; every single thing that happen to you on the road to your goal is the right thing to happen, even if you use your judgment to say that it is BAD or GOOD. Sometimes we do need to be shaken up in order to understand that you need to correct the course to reach your desired goal and the Universe is always taking the shortest road to make that happen.

It is for that reason that there is no such thing as FAILURE in life, because everything leads to SUCCESS.

5. It is not what you do but How you do it!

I love that sentence and I have heard it many times from James Arthur Ray, it is incredible that I have never ever met Mr. Ray or ever been in one of his seminars but I do enjoy his way to explain things and make people understand.

“IT IS NOT WHAT YOU DO BUT HOW YOU DO IT”

Certainly there cannot be more truth than the statement above, let me ask you something, how many bloggers, how many bankers, how many people doing the same thing as you are out there?

Competition will exist no matter what kind of path you take and for that reason it is futile to think about the competitor and how to compete, it is much better to invest your efforts in finding out of the box ways to make you get the edge. There is enough for everyone in this world and limitations exist only on your mind.

There is much more to discuss about the secrets to Success, so just stay tuned for more.

As usual you are more than welcome to drop comments and add your ideas to this post, it will always help everyone of us grow.

Last point is probably the best one, competition will always exist. The worst part is when you’ve created something entirely unique and then some site sees your success and copies you - this will always happen, so competition will always be around.

This is some fantastic advice, if I could add a few inflections in here, I would suggest that when thinking about goals, make sure that they step just one yard further than what you are “physically” capable of. I was always taught that you need to push yourself further than you can actually reach, if you can’t reach it, then you won’t be disappointed for not being able to beat physics, but if you do, you’ll feel the overjoyed sensation of success despite the odds! I highly recommend this way of thinking.

actually i stopped reading right after i spotted this paradox in part 1…

    c) He would never deviate from his plan, once the plan is decided there is no room for doubt or failure
    e) He will know when to adapt to the situation and change accordingly (when the plan no longer works).

so which is it? never deviate? change accordingly? whatever..
