Learn how to Meditate (Easy)

Posted in Key Ingredients for Success by Gustav S on the May 8th, 2007

Meditation… what is meditation? In a simple sentence: is the methods through which our true self is revealed to us.

Simple enough right? but do you know who you are? I am not asking about your description or identity but WHO you are? do you know yourself?.

Humanity as a whole is always looking to know at who we are: On the western side of the world we decided to look who we are by using the scientific method and by looking outside ourselves for clues. Evolution theories, Fossils, experiments, astrology, mathematics are attempts to discover who we are.

On the other Eastern side: they decided to look at who we are, by instrospection, by looking inside ourselves, using meditation, opening their consciousness and discovering phenomena that cannot be explained or measured by any Western gadget at this moment.

It is up to you to determine who do you think achieved the goal of finding out “who we are” first. But as a hint, you for sure will be noticing as of today that western society is starting to discover now what the Eastern society knows already for thousands of years.

Benefits of meditation:

1. Meditate to help you overcoming depression
2. Meditate to make your chakras strong
3. Meditation will help your soul grow
4. Meditation will make you mindful
5. Happiness lies within meditate process
6.

Having that said lets move on to a simple meditation technique:

This is just a suggestion on the many ways to meditate

If we consider our actual life rythm, we cannot really expect to learn how to meditate just like a Buddhist Monk do, but it is quite interesting to say that Buddha (no wonder why it is considered a God in Asia) 2500 years ago developed a way to meditate which as of today I would call it the modern way to easily learn how to meditate.

Vipassana is the technique of lord Gautama Buddha . The path of Buddha is considered as Golden Mean because he teaches that there in no need to go to any extreme - neither in indulgence nor in abstinence. His path is a Golden path, which does not demand affiliation to any idea, belief or dogma. Even after the lapse of more than 2500 years since he walked on this earth, there is no decline in his teaching or in the relevance of his miraculous and amazingly simple meditation technique ‘Vipassana’. Everyone can learn how to meditate as it will indeed put you in direct contact with your higher self or spirit our soul as you wish to call it.

Vipassana is (Meaning: to come and see) :

“to be aware of your breath all the time. “

That’s all ! It is just simple . To be watchful of your breath as it comes and go. The easiest meditation technique of all time.

Breathing is the most of important life process of our body. Nobody can exist without breath even for a single moment. In fact breathing is so important that nature has made it automatic in all living being. Nobody has to remember to breath.Breathing is a link between our soul and our body. So when one meditates on breathing, invariably, he gets connected with his self.

Here are some simple steps to get you started with Vipassana:

An important note: Meditation is a process which takes some time, do not expect to receive the holy ilumination on your first attempts, as everything it requires some degree of dedication and interest. Go for it! you will be really pleased with yourself when you achieve success at meditation.

  • Sit or lay down in a comfortable chair, in a room where no one can disturb you for at least 15 minutes.
  • Once you feel comfortable, close your eyes and take a deep breath, when you breath out, imagine that all tensions in your body, mind and soul just vanish, visualize a white light that goes through all your body and as it passes by it relaxes all you body parts from the top of your head to your toes. Repeat this step at least 2 times.
  • Once you feel relaxed, just focus on your breath, going in and out, in and out… do not let any thoughts come into your head or distract you from your breathing, just see them pass away… like if you are ignoring them.
  • Do not analyze what is happening instead just feel and remember those feelings of well being.
  • Try to stay aware of your breath for as long as possible. Do not worry if you fall asleep, in fact that is a good indicator that you are doing the exercise right, soon you will not fall asleep and you will keep just at the border of sleep.

The real success will come when you can be aware of your breath while doing all kind of daily activities like reading, playing, driving, swimming, or doing any domestic task. However this stage will come after a regular practice for a considerable amount of time. At that point there will be two aspects of your existence - doing and being. You will be doing everything, fully involved in your tasks, yet inside there will be a center of awareness in you undisturbed by outer circumstances. That will be the true state of a meditator - the one who will be creative outside and meditative inside.

If you master this technique, then my friend you will discover many beautiful things about yourself, it is hard to explain because my truth is different to your truth so do not worry and keep moving forward.!
