Understand ing the Importance of Balance. Part 1

Posted in Balance and Harmony by Gustav S on the May 7th, 2007

Balance, Harmony, Consciousness, I cannot stress enough how important these key factors are in order to achieve the ultimate goal of success in everything you wish in life. It is amazingly important and at the same so misunderstood by our modern society that is scary. When did we stop trying to find a balance ?

All this innumerable dis-eases that exist as of today like cancers, high blood pressure, heart attacks and so on are so extremely related to a lack of Life Balance and Harmony in our overall life.

Everyone is taking their lives to vast extremes, from anorexia to extreme overweight, from lazyness to overstress, from hate to obsession, from extremely poor to extremely rich, from vegetarian to raw meat eaters thus creating such a lack of inner balance that certainly does not let you achieve any goals or any success in life.

Balance is the exact point in which nothing happens, it is the point in which 2 opposing things cancel each other thus achieving an equilibrium so well being or energy can flow without any obstacles or disruptions through your body.

This is the concept that our fellow Asian cultures present to us and that they understand for many millenniums already, in other words the most famous YING/YANG. Surely you have seen this at least once in your life and even though you kind of understand what it means but you really are not practicing it in your life. You might not be aware enough to understand its very deep meaning.

“Everything positive have something negative, everything negative have something positive”. That is what the ying/yang symbolizes. On the white side (all that is positive) of the drawing there is a black dot (have something negative), and the black side (all that is negative) have a white dot (have something positive). The wavy curve that separates both sides represents the flow of chi or KI or energy or holy ghost as you would love to call it and in order for it to flow there is this need for balance.

Chinese medicine have used this formula for years in order to cure their people with herbal medicines and to restore balance in their bodies.
Chinese medicine theory asserts that processes of the human body are interrelated and in constant interaction with the environment. Signs of disharmony help the Chinese Medicine practitioner to understand, treat and prevent illness and disease.

Chinese Medicine theory is based on a number of philosophical frameworks also, but this is one of the most important.

Ying/Yang exists everywhere in the Universe, for example in the case of Martial Arts we use 2 types of KI, Energy or CHI, in order to achieve our feats, that is HARD Ki and SOFT Ki, if we want to break boards or be able to get hit without any injury we use HARD Ki, if we want to control our environment or show love or achieve goals we use SOFT Ki. Since using one side or another side of this balance (hard ki or soft ki) produces a momentary imbalance in your body, it is imperative in order to restore the natural flow of KI in our bodies to then balance by doing some exercises from the opposite type of ki in order to return to balance.

The same holds true for whatever you decide to do in life: if you eat too much fast food then eat more vegetables, if you like spend too much time on the computer then go and do some jogging.

Please note, that my only goal is to show you how important is to achieve balance in life and not that you need to become a martial artist or spend the rest of your life to become a monk or anything like that. The video show amazing feats that anyone of us could do with enough practice and knowledge about what is in life, always broaden your views of life :).

Soon part 2 of this series of Balance and Harmony… keep in touch..
